Xianyang Normal University is a province-owned university featuring teacher education, a high-quality teacher training university of the Facilitation Project of the National Construction of a Powerful Country in Education, and a “First-class Applied Undergraduate University Construction Institution” of Shaanxi Province. The university, founded in 1978, currently has 17 schools, 33 research institutes, and 51 undergraduate majors covering 9 disciplines. The university is accessible to students from 28 provinces (cities) and autonomous regions, with more than 18,000 full-time students, 100 international students, and 1,300 faculty and staff members. The university adheres to the policy of running the university openly and has established friendly and cooperative relationships with more than 100 universities and scientific research institutes and organizations in 27 countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States as well as those from Hong Kong and Taiwan in China. More than 1,000 teachers and students have been to the Philippines or Thailand respectively as volunteers of teaching Chinese, or as teachers in kindergartens in Singapore, or as students for exchange and peripatetic study in South Korea through the initiation of “Projects”. The “2+2” and “3+1” programs have enabled both teachers and students to go to the United States and South Korea to study for double degrees or master’s or doctor’s degrees. More than 100 foreign teachers from 10 countries have been appointed to teach at the university. The number of overseas exchange students who have finished their studies in the university totals over 650.
