Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology (NJCIT for short) is a high-level higher vocational college with Chinese characteristics, a national demonstration (backbone) higher vocational college, a high-quality higher vocational college of the Ministry of Education, a high-level higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province and an excellent higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province. The predecessor of the school is Nanjing Radio Industrial School, which was founded in 1953. It is the first electronic secondary professional school after the founding of People's Republic of China. Premier Zhou Enlai, and Vice Premier Chen Yi, Tan Zhenlin, Xi Zhongxun visited the college, and more than 3000 foreign guests and experts visited the college. Over the past 70 years, NJCIT has sent more than 70000 technical and skilled talents to the society. Focusing on the three major clusters of information product manufacturing, information network and information technology services, NJCIT offers 51 majors, including 8 national key construction majors (groups), 2 brand specialty construction projects of colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province, 5 high-level backbone majors in Jiangsu Province, 3 provincial brand majors, 3 provincial characteristic majors, 4 provincial key construction specialty groups and 6 provincial key construction majors. NJCIT has 3 national training bases, 6 provincial training bases, 215 on-campus experimental training rooms and more than 400 off-campus training bases. NJCIT has successively established friendly exchange relations with colleges and universities and educational institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, India, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries and regions, and expanded overseas exchange and learning channels for teachers and students. NJCIT is a higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province and even East China that has earlier carried out education for overseas students with academic degrees. Since 2014, NJCIT has recruited overseas students with academic degrees from Laos, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and Ethiopia, and jointly cultivated communication technology talents adopting the model of School-Enterprise-School with China Communications Technology Co., Ltd. and Arsi University in Ethiopia. Since 2019, NJCIT has undertaken the sub-project of the China-South Africa High-level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism-South African Students Studying and Internship Program in China. Since 2021, NJCIT has undertaken the “Chinese Bridge” Online Camp of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
南京信息職業技術學院是中國特色高水平高職學校、國家示范性（骨干）高職院校、教育部優質?？聘叩嚷殬I院校、江蘇省高水平高等職業院校、江蘇省卓越高等職業院校培育校。學校前身是創建于1953年的南京無線電工業學校，是新中國成立后的第一所電子類中等專業學校。周恩來總理、陳毅、譚震林、習仲勛副總理曾到校視察，先后有3000多位外賓、專家到校參觀交流。辦學七十年來，為社會輸送了七萬余名技術技能型人才。
學校圍繞信息產品制造、信息網絡、信息技術服務三大專業集群，開設51個專業，包括8個國家重點建設專業（群）、2個江蘇省高校品牌專業建設工程項目、5個江蘇省高水平骨干專業、3個省級品牌專業、3個省級特色專業、4個省級重點建設專業群、6個省級重點建設專業。學校建有國家級實訓基地3個，省級實訓基地6個，校內實驗實訓室215個，校外實訓基地400余家。
學校先后與美國、加拿大、英國、澳大利亞、韓國、新加坡、印度、芬蘭、德國、新西蘭、南非、越南、泰國、老撾、馬來西亞、印度尼西亞等國家的高等院校和教育機構建立友好交流關系，拓展師生境外交流學習渠道。學校是江蘇省乃至華東地區較早開展學歷留學生教育的高等職業院校，2014年起招收來自老撾、印度尼西亞、吉爾吉斯斯坦、埃塞俄比亞的學歷留學生，與中郵建技術有限公司、埃塞俄比亞阿斯大學校企校共同培養通信技術人才，2019年起承接了中南高級別人文交流機制子項目-南非學生來華學習實習項目。2021年起，承辦中國教育部中外語言交流合作中心“漢語橋”線上團組交流項目。
