Founded in 1952, Inner Mongolia Normal University is the earliest university established by the government in the frontier minority areas after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which is one of the key universities in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and a comprehensive normal university with the characteristic features of both teacher education and ethnic education. After the hard pioneering and practical exploration of several generations, Inner Mongolia Normal University has become an important base to train talents of elementary education and ethnic education, as well as the compound ethnic minority talents who master both Chinese and Mongolian. It is also the training center of middle-school teachers in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the continuing education center of primary and middle-school teachers, and the research center of the reform and development of elementary education and ethnic education. Inner Mongolia Normal University is the education and training base of environment and sustainable development in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and China, the national-level training base of social sports instructors, the research center of ethnic sculpture in the autonomous region, the creation base of professional arts, and the base of popularizing humanities and social sciences. Praised as "the cradle of ethnic education", it is also the training base of all types of sports professionals in the autonomous region, the Mongolian sports professionals of the eight provinces in China, the ethnic music talents in North China, the education talents of fine arts and art design in the autonomous region. 69 years since the founding of the university, Inner Mongolia Normal University has trained and provided more than 260,000 graduates of all sorts, forging the school-running concept of seeking the truth and doing practical work, education first, academic innovation and serving the society, consolidating the school-running features of teacher education of two bachelor's degrees and training the compound ethnic minority talents who master both Chinese and Mongolian, and taking the school motto of dedication, truth-seeking, unity and striving. Persevering in open education, Inner Mongolia Normal University has established partnerships with universities and research institutes in more than 20 countries -- including Mongolia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Canada and Australia, in addition to cooperating with more than 80 famous universities and colleges at home, scientific research institutes, enterprises and local government. In 2009, the university was approved to train the postgraduates of Chinese International Education. Almost 500 distinguished experts and scholars at home and abroad have been engaged as academic consultants, visiting professors and adjunct professors successively, including 7 academicians of the two academies (Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering) and 4 academicians with Chinese Academy of Social Science. In the new historical stage of development, Inner Mongolia Normal University is transforming and developing according to the notion of integration into the society, serving the society and leading the society. It is serving the local development of economy and society, and the construction of the Belt and Road, as well as making unremitting endeavor to build Inner Mongolia Normal University an advanced and comprehensive normal university with distinctive features and innovation.

內蒙古師范大學創建于1952年，是新中國成立后黨和國家在邊疆少數民族地區最早建立的高等學校，自治區重點大學，是具有鮮明教師教育和民族教育特色的綜合性師范大學。經過幾代人的艱苦創業、實踐探索，現已成為自治區培養基礎教育、民族教育師資和蒙漢兼通少數民族復合型人才的重要基地，是自治區中學教師培養中心、中小學教師繼續教育中心、基礎教育與民族教育改革發展研究中心。學校也是國家及自治區環境與可持續發展教育培訓基地、國家級社會體育指導員培訓基地、自治區民族雕塑研究中心、專業藝術創作基地、人文社科普及基地，是自治區各類體育專業人才和全國八省區蒙古族體育人才、中國北方民族音樂人才、自治區美術、藝術設計教育人才培養基地，被社會譽為“民族教育的搖籃”

建校69年來，學校形成了“求真務實，育人至上，學術創新，服務社會”的辦學理念，強化了“雙學位教師教育和蒙漢兼通人才培養”的辦學特色，秉承“獻身、求實、團結、奮進”的校訓，已培養輸送各類畢業生26萬余人。學校堅持開放辦學，與蒙古、俄羅斯、日本、韓國、馬來西亞、美國、英國、德國、法國、荷蘭、加拿大、澳大利亞等20幾個國家及80余個國內知名院校、科研機構、企事業單位、地方政府建立了良好的合作關系；2009年被批準為漢語國際教育碩士研究生培養單位。學校先后聘請包括7位兩院院士和4位學部委員在內的近500位國內外著名專家學者任學校學術顧問、客座教授和兼職教授。

在新的歷史發展階段，學校正按照“融入社會、服務社會、引領社會”的理念轉型發展，服務區域經濟社會發展和“一帶一路”建設，為把學校建設成為特色鮮明的創新型高水平綜合性師范大學而不懈努力。
